Audio-Technica has announced a new flagship for its closed-back headphone range. The Audio-Technica ATH-AWX7000 are wired over-ear headphones and the first to feature the company's True Closed-back Acoustic design. They are available now at £3299.
The acoustic design is intended to harness the air pressure generated within the earcups. The headphones also use a Hybrid Matrix Diaphragm, which bonds thin films of different materials together. Their High-Concentricity X Dynamic Transducer manufacturing process aligns the baffle, magnet, voice coil and diaphragm.
The earcup housings are made from Japanese Kiso cypress wood and finished with hand-applied Echizen lacquer. The headphones use soft leather earpads, while the frame and arms are made from magnesium. Precision-machined aluminium sliders form another part of the construction.
Two cables are supplied with the headphones: a 2.5m balanced cable with XLR connectors and a 3.0m unbalanced cable with a 6.3mm stereo plug. A hard-shell carry case is also included.
