Schiit has introduced the Magni 6 desktop headphone amplifier. It delivers 3W RMS per channel into 32 ohms and is available through the company's website, with the standalone amplifier priced at US$99.
The amplifier uses fully discrete circuitry and a linear power supply. Its other quoted output ratings are 3.5W into 16 ohms, 2W into 50 ohms and 500mW into 300 ohms.
The headphone connections comprise a conventional 6.35mm output and a 4.4mm output incorporating Schiit's Halo mixed-mode feedback technology. Halo is designed to incorporate the connected headphone driver into the amplifier's feedback loop. The technology was previously used in Schiit's Midgard headphone amplifier.
Aluminium push-buttons on the front panel handle input selection, gain adjustment and preamplifier output switching. The RCA preamplifier outputs can be switched independently, allowing users to control those connections when moving between headphones and powered monitors in a desktop system.
An optional internal Mesh 2 DAC combines proprietary digital filtering with delta-sigma conversion. The Magni 6 equipped with this DAC is priced at US$169.
