Mytek launches flagship Empire V2.0 DAC/streamer in Warsaw

Mytek’s Empire V2.0 replaces the original Empire V1.0. The new model includes a mastering ADC for high-resolution recording of analogue sources to its internal drive. Its DSP architecture is designed to support plug-ins for applications such as room correction and record noise removal.

Mytek has launched its new flagship at the Audio Video Show in Warsaw. The Mytek Empire V2.0 DAC/streamer/preamplifier uses a dual-mono hybrid 6-bit DAC architecture. It costs $19,995 or €19,995 and is built to order with an estimated four-week lead time.

The conversion design combines DAC chipsets with external DSP and FPGA processing, supporting PCM playback up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512. Three linear power supplies serve the digital circuitry and the separate left- and right-channel DAC/analogue circuits. Shielding and galvanic isolation separate the DAC board from the computing hardware. The unit also offers selectable analogue or digital volume control and can operate as a standalone DAC.

The streaming platform uses Intel NUC computing hardware running Ubuntu Linux-based Mytek OS, with software updates delivered over the internet. Qobuz Connect and Roon Core functionality are included, while Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect are planned additions. Custom internal SSD configurations extend to 16TB, with support for external USB and network storage. Network connections are available over Wi-Fi or a wired connection.

Six analogue inputs comprise two balanced XLR and four RCA inputs, with adjustable sensitivity for each. Digital sources connect through two coaxial inputs, one optical input and one USB input. Four independently selectable outputs use balanced XLR and RCA connections. Control is available through the front-panel touchscreen or from a smartphone or tablet.

The Empire V2.0 has a custom-milled aluminium chassis and is offered in silver or black finishes. Passive CPU cooling uses aluminium heat pipes coupled to the chassis lid. Mytek has its headquarters in New York, with European operations and manufacturing in Warsaw, Poland.
