REL Acoustics launches Reference No.35 and No.36 subwoofers

REL Acoustics has introduced two new Reference Series subwoofers. The REL Acoustics Reference No.35 is rated at 900 watts RMS and priced at $10,000 USD, launching alongside the Reference No.36. Preorders for both models opened through authorised REL Reference dealers on 22 September 2026.

Both models use REL's Class AB/D amplifier architecture, which combines a traditional Class A/B power supply with Class D amplification. Each subwoofer incorporates a 17-pound toroidal transformer. The amplifier in the Reference No.36 is rated at 1,000 watts RMS.

The Reference No.35 has a 12-inch (300mm) driver with a new cast-aluminium frame and a redesigned suspension. Its cone uses a 12K carbon-fibre weave. The subwoofer has a specified low-frequency extension of 17Hz at -6dB.

The Reference No.36 uses a 15-inch (380mm) Reference driver incorporating REL's 12K Pure Carbon Fibre technology. Its revised suspension is intended to allow greater driver movement. The specified low-frequency extension for this model is 15Hz at -6dB.

Both subwoofers have curvilinear cabinets with internal bracing and a finish comprising 12 coats of hand-rubbed lacquer. The Reference No.35 and Reference No.36 can each be incorporated into REL Reference Line Arrays alongside earlier Reference Series models.
