Everest Audio Labs has introduced the latest version of its Ascent music server. The Everest Audio Labs Ascent uses a fully linear ATX power supply and is available to purchase with free worldwide shipping.

The power architecture supplies all five motherboard rails through linear regulation, using a shielded 250 VA transformer and 320,000 µF of filtering capacitance. Seven independent linear regulators serve different sections of the server, with a separate low-noise regulator for the storage SSD. The standard USB output-card supply uses a separate 60 VA transformer and has a specified noise level as low as 0.8 µV. Two 450 F supercapacitors power the output stage, which has a specified output impedance as low as 3 milliohms.

The standard configuration includes the Everest USB One PCIe interface for connection to an external DAC. Its SC-cut crystal oscillator is powered by stacked LT3042 voltage regulators and enclosed in a CNC-machined metal housing with a damping compound. Alternative USB cards include the Pink Faun USB Bridge mk.2 and JCAT USB XE Evo. Network-output options include Taiko Network Extreme with SFP output and JCAT NET XE Evo, with configurations supporting a private music-only connection directly to an Ethernet DAC.

Ascent runs on an Intel N100 quad-core processor with 16 GB of RAM and a 500 GB system SSD. Its custom AudioLinux operating system assigns dedicated CPU cores to audio-related processes. The server can be configured for Roon server duties, Roon Bridge, HQPlayer NAA or MPD/JPLAY playback. Optional internal music SSD storage is available in capacities of 1 TB, 2 TB, 4 TB and 8 TB.

The server is built in Poland and housed in an aluminium enclosure. Finned side panels provide passive cooling without a fan. The chassis measures 430 × 353 × 109 mm, specified as width, depth and height, and weighs 13 kg.
