Matrix Audio has introduced the SU-1 USB isolator for hi-fi and AV applications. The device provides galvanic isolation between a USB host and connected equipment and has a recommended retail price of €899. It is available through specialist retailers, with distribution handled by DREI H.
The SU-1 has three USB inputs and two USB outputs, with support for Type-A, Type-B and Type-C connections. It supports a combined input-and-output USB cable length of up to 8 metres. That figure covers the total cable length on both sides of the isolator.
Power comes from a multichannel, linearly regulated supply incorporating a fully encapsulated toroidal transformer. The unit's power output is rated at 5 V/1 A. Its USB circuitry also incorporates optimised transmission impedance.
The enclosure is made from fully CNC-machined aluminium alloy, with an operating-status indicator on the front panel. The SU-1 measures 120 mm wide, 205 mm deep and 44 mm high, and weighs 1.58 kg.
