Audiovector has introduced the R5 Arreté, a new floorstanding loudspeaker positioned between the slimmer R3 Arreté and the larger R6 Arreté in the Danish company’s R Series. It is the first R Series model to use technologies developed for the flagship R10 Arreté. Audiovector says the speaker was developed over five years and is designed, engineered and hand-built in Denmark.
The R5 Arreté uses a true 3.5-way architecture with bottom-mounted bass reflex loading. Its two 6.5-inch AFC carbon-sandwich bass drivers have different roles: one covers the full bass range, while the second is dedicated to the lowest frequencies. A separate 6.5-inch AFC carbon-sandwich driver handles the lower midrange. The AMT N51 tweeter operates from the 2,800 Hz crossover point to a quoted 53 kHz. Audiovector also applies its Accelerated Force Concept and Low Compression Concept to reduce moving mass and pressure behind the diaphragms.
Official specifications list a frequency response of 23 Hz to 53 kHz, average impedance of 8 ohms, minimum impedance of 3.6 ohms and sensitivity of 90 dB/W. Crossover frequencies are specified at 200 Hz, 600 Hz and 2,800 Hz. Each cabinet measures 111 cm high, 22 cm wide and 41 cm deep, expanding to 26 cm by 48 cm at the plinth, and weighs 32.1 kg. A three-position damping adjustment is provided for matching the speaker to different amplifier types.
Standard finishes comprise Black Piano, White Silk, African Mahogany Piano and Italian Walnut, with custom piano colours available on request. A black cloth grille is included. StereoLife lists the R5 Arreté as available now at approximately €19,950, £17,950 or $24,500 per pair. The model adds a larger floorstanding option to the R Series while bringing technologies derived from the flagship R10 Arreté into a smaller enclosure.
