Spotify adds conversational app beta for Premium users

Spotify has introduced a conversational experience inside its mobile app for eligible Premium users. Announced on 14 July 2026, the beta lets users type or speak requests to Spotify and continue the exchange through follow-up prompts. It is rolling out gradually in English on iOS and Android in the U.S., Ireland and Sweden.

The new experience sits in Home and the Now Playing view, where users can ask for listening help inside the app. It supports back-and-forth conversations about what to play, rather than relying only on a single command. It can also answer questions about music playing in Now Playing and about a user's listening history.

The feature can act on some listening requests as well as answer them. A user can ask Spotify to save a song, add a song to the queue or follow an artist. Those controls place discovery and library actions inside the same conversational flow.

The beta extends Spotify's earlier AI-personalization work beyond DJ, which launched in 2023 as a personalized AI guide. Spotify had also offered Hey Spotify as an in-app voice-control experience for starting, navigating and searching music and podcasts. The new conversational experience is available to eligible Premium users aged 18 and over as the gradual beta rollout reaches selected English-language markets.
