REL introduces Planar PL-1 and PL-2 on-wall subs

The Planar Series is aimed at rooms where a floor-standing subwoofer is difficult to place or visually intrusive. The two-model range shifts REL’s subwoofer format toward wall-mounted and flush-installation systems for stereo and home-cinema use.

REL Acoustics has introduced two Planar Series on-wall subwoofers, the Planar PL-1 and Planar PL-2, according to Stereocheck. The models move REL’s subwoofer format toward wall-mounted and flush-installation use, where a conventional floor cabinet may be hard to accommodate.

The range is presented as an architectural alternative to a traditional subwoofer, with both models designed to sit close to a wall. Stereocheck reports that REL uses the wall position as part of the design approach, with boundary reinforcement contributing to bass efficiency from the slim enclosures.

The larger PL-2 and smaller PL-1 use different driver layouts, while both include wireless functionality and compatibility with REL’s AirShip Direct wireless transmission system. Both models also include a dedicated wall-mounting system intended to maintain the spacing needed for the passive radiator arrangement.
